A man already serving life in prison for murder now faces charges in a nearly decade-old double homicide in Columbus, prosecutors announced this week.
A Franklin County grand jury indicted Yussuf A. Yussuf, 31, on charges of aggravated murder, murder, and aggravated robbery in connection with the Jan. 23, 2017, deaths of Caleb Killen and Jawuan Reynolds, both 22. The two were found shot inside Reynolds’ car, parked outside a building in the Wedgewood Village apartment complex.
Reynolds, an aspiring rapper who performed as Fam Staxx, and Killen were best friends. At the time of the killings, a 911 caller told Columbus police that someone tried to set the car on fire but fled.
A second suspect in the case, Paul Smith, 26, pleaded guilty to felonious assault in September and is scheduled to be sentenced in November.
Yussuf is currently held at the North Central Correctional Institution. In April, he was sentenced to life in prison with no opportunity for parole for the June 2021 strangulation death of his girlfriend, Jenay Crawley, 23, whose body was found set on fire near the village of Urbancrest.
