COLUMBUS: A federal jury has convicted Davonta T. Flood, 30, of Columbus, of illegally possessing a firearm as a convicted felon, federal prosecutors announced on Oct. 8, closing a case against a man described as a repeat offender at both the federal and state levels.
The verdict was announced jointly by Dominick S. Gerace II, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio; Jorge Rosendo, Special Agent in Charge of the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; Franklin County Sheriff Dallas Baldwin; and Columbus Police Chief Elaine Bryant. Assistant United States Attorneys Jennifer M. Rausch and Elizabeth A. Geraghty prosecuted the case.
Under federal law, people convicted of prior felonies are barred from owning or possessing firearms, and Flood’s history of repeat offenses at both levels made the charge a priority for local and federal investigators working together. Officials did not immediately release details of the underlying incident that led to the arrest.
Flood’s sentence will be determined later by the court, based on the advisory federal sentencing guidelines and other statutory factors. The conviction is one of a series of recent federal firearms and violent-crime cases announced by the Southern District of Ohio this week.
