COLUMBUS — A federal grand jury in the Southern District of Ohio has indicted a 37-year-old Mexican national on a felony charge of illegally reentering the United States, federal prosecutors announced.
Miguel Camarena-Salazar was taken into federal custody after the indictment. Federal prosecutors say he had previously been removed from the United States on three occasions — in August 2015, December 2015 and June 2016. In February 2026, Camarena-Salazar was convicted of abduction in Delaware County, Ohio, and is required to register as a sex offender under Ohio law.
The grand jury handed up the indictment on the immigration offense before Camarena-Salazar finished his state prison sentence, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. He was scheduled to appear in federal court in Columbus on Tuesday for a detention hearing.
The case was announced by U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio Dominick S. Gerace II and Homeland Security Investigations Detroit Acting Special Agent in Charge Jeremy Pierczynski. Illegally reentering the United States is a federal crime punishable by up to two years in prison. An indictment contains only allegations, and defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
