CINCINNATI — Jury selection in the murder trial of Rodney Hinton Jr. is expected to finish by noon Wednesday, and the panel of 12 jurors and four alternates will then be taken to the scene where a Hamilton County sheriff’s deputy was killed last spring.

Hinton is accused of intentionally driving into Deputy Larry Henderson on May 2, 2025, near the University of Cincinnati, where Henderson was directing traffic for a graduation ceremony. Prosecutors say the act was deliberate; the defense is seeking a verdict of not guilty by reason of insanity.

The scene visit will let jurors see the intersection where Henderson died before opening statements begin. The trial, expected to run about two weeks, has drawn intense attention across Hamilton County, where Henderson’s killing shook the law enforcement community and the UC campus.

Visiting a crime scene is a standard step when the layout of a location matters to the evidence jurors will hear. After the walkthrough, attorneys for both sides will lay out their cases in opening statements.
