Kroger has opened a new $33 million store in Delaware, the third new central Ohio location the grocery giant has opened since 2024. The 1650 Sunbury Road store, spanning more than 118,000 square feet, opened its doors Oct. 2 following a 7:30 a.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony, after roughly a year of construction.

The store adds 240 employees to Kroger’s Columbus Division, which counts about 18,000 associates across Ohio, Michigan and West Virginia. Inside, shoppers will find expanded produce, deli, bakery, meat, seafood and sushi departments, a Murray’s cheese shop, an expanded apparel section and a dedicated pickup area.

Opening-weekend perks drew early crowds: the first 200 customers through the door Oct. 2 could score gift cards ranging from $5 to $500, and the first 200 shoppers on Oct. 3 received coupons for a free Kroger-brand breakfast item. Kroger Plus members also get 20 cents off per gallon at the store’s fuel center from opening day through Oct. 13.

“We can’t wait for Delaware residents to experience their brand-new store,” said Jon Young, president of Kroger’s Columbus Division, calling it part of the company’s goal of giving Ohio families a go-to place for fresh, affordable groceries.
