Ohio starts Monday under a Frost Advisory that covers the state until 9 a.m., according to the National Weather Service. The advisories from the offices in Cleveland, Wilmington, Pittsburgh and Northern Indiana call for temperatures as low as 34 degrees in northern Ohio, 35 in the northwest and east central Ohio, and 37 in central and southern Ohio. Frost could harm sensitive vegetation, and plants may be killed if left uncovered, the weather service warns. Once the advisory expires, the day turns sunny statewide, with highs in the middle 60s in the north and around 70 in the south.
In the northwest, Toledo starts clear and cold, around 40 degrees, under the frost advisory until 9 a.m., then turns sunny with a high near 69 and light southwest winds. The rest of northwest Ohio follows the same pattern — a frosty start, then a bright, dry afternoon. Travel stays quiet, with no rain in the forecast.
Cleveland, Akron and the northeast are under the frost advisory from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m., with temperatures as low as 34 degrees, the National Weather Service in Cleveland says. Monday then turns sunny along Lake Erie, with Cleveland reaching the middle 60s — around 65 degrees — on a light south wind. Lows in the middle to upper 30s are expected in the northeast over the next several nights, with mostly clear skies through at least Thursday.
Central and southwest Ohio see the warmest afternoon in the state. Columbus turns sunny with a high around 70 after a clear, cold morning near 39 degrees. Cincinnati and Dayton, both under the Wilmington office’s frost advisory early, turn sunny with highs around 70 to 71 degrees. Winds stay light, and skies stay clear into the night.
In the southeast, Athens starts clear and cold at 36 degrees, with sheltered valleys dipping into the middle 30s, then turns sunny with a high near 68. East central Ohio is under the Pittsburgh office’s frost advisory until 9 a.m., with temperatures as low as 35. By midday, the whole southeast is sunny and dry, with light northeast winds.
Tonight stays clear across Ohio, with lows in the upper 30s to low 40s — around 39 in Columbus, around 41 in Dayton and the middle to upper 30s in parts of the northeast. Tuesday brings another sunny day statewide, with highs around 67 in the northeast and Toledo, near 70 in Athens, and 71 to 72 in Columbus, Dayton and Cincinnati.
The week ahead stays quiet and dry. Wednesday through Friday are forecast sunny to partly cloudy, with highs in the middle 60s in the north and around 70 to 71 in central and southwest Ohio, and lows in the upper 30s to low 40s. The dry pattern holds into the weekend, with Saturday highs around 70 to 72 in the south. For this morning, protect tender plants — after 9 a.m., the frost threat is done, and Ohio gets a bright fall Monday.
