COLUMBUS — A man wanted in a fatal East Side double shooting has surrendered to Columbus police. Michael Rashawn Wells, 32, turned himself in at police headquarters on Friday, Oct. 9, after several days on the run.
Wells faces charges of murder and felonious assault in connection with a shooting outside the Prime Ultra Lounge on the 900 block of Barnett Road. Officers responded at 2:14 a.m. on Oct. 4 and found 39-year-old Jeffrey Scott Amaker and a relative of Amaker suffering from gunshot wounds in the parking lot. Both were taken to a local hospital in critical condition; Amaker died at 2:47 a.m.
According to police, Amaker, his relative and Wells had been involved in a fight in the parking lot before the shooting escalated. Witnesses told detectives they saw Wells retrieve a handgun from his car and fire on the two men before fleeing the scene. Police later identified a 2007 Toyota Avalon as the getaway vehicle and recovered it on Oct. 5.
As of Friday, no court date had been set for Wells, who is in custody at the Franklin County Corrections Center.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the Columbus police Homicide Unit or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers with an anonymous tip.
