Harold Hoffman has lived more than a century in Toledo, and on Thursday, Oct. 22, he will celebrate his 101st birthday. A proud Toledo native and military veteran, Hoffman is the oldest living alumnus of Central Catholic High School and now makes his home at Glass Peaks Senior Living in Toledo, where family members visit him daily.
Reaching 101 is no small accomplishment, but those who know Hoffman say he treats age as simply a number. He stays active, finds joy in everyday moments and is known for cutting a rug on the dance floor — a reminder, his family says, that you are never too old to enjoy a good dance.
One of Hoffman’s most treasured traditions is the intricate Christmas village he sets up each year at Glass Peaks for residents, staff and visitors. His attention to detail turns the display into a small holiday world of its own, spreading Christmas cheer through the community each season.
His creativity does not stop there. Hoffman also makes unique crafts out of corks, proof that imagination and a passion for creating have no age limit — a fitting hobby for a man whose life has spanned more than a hundred years of Toledo history.
Family is at the heart of Hoffman’s world. The loving family he built over a lifetime now returns that devotion with daily visits, companionship and laughter at Glass Peaks — bonds his loved ones describe as a reflection of the life he spent building them.
As Central Catholic’s oldest living alumnus, Hoffman also carries a living link to generations of Toledo students who passed through the school’s halls after him, a connection the community is marking as his birthday approaches.
Glass Peaks and Hoffman’s family invite the community to join in celebrating a remarkable milestone: 101 years of memories, service and joy, with a Toledoan who continues to inspire everyone around him to live life to the fullest.
