RAVENNA, Ohio — A Portage County grand jury has indicted a Ravenna Township man on 24 felony counts accusing him of repeatedly sexually abusing a girl under the age of 10 over a 13-month period.
Colton English Oakes, 30, is charged with 12 counts of first-degree felony rape and 12 counts of third-degree felony gross sexual imposition, according to the indictment filed Oct. 8 in Portage County Court of Common Pleas. Court records allege the offenses took place between Sept. 1, 2025, when the girl was 8, and Sept. 30, 2026, when she was 9.
The investigation began after a social worker at Akron Children’s Hospital reported the matter to the Portage County Sheriff’s Office. A single rape count was first filed in Portage County Municipal Court in Ravenna on Oct. 2 after the girl disclosed that Oakes had assaulted her at his home in late September, court records show.
Oakes is being held in the Portage County Jail on a $1.5 million cash or surety bond pending arraignment on the indictment, which was scheduled for Friday. If convicted on all counts, he faces decades in prison. The case will be prosecuted by the Portage County Prosecutor’s Office.
