CARROLLTON, Ohio — A 70-year-old Sherrodsville man was killed Thursday afternoon when his motorcycle struck a trailer on state Route 39 in Monroe Township, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.
William R. Burrows was riding a Honda motorcycle on Route 39 around 3:20 p.m. when the traffic ahead of him began to slow. A 2000 Ford Superduty pulling a flat-bed trailer had slowed to make a right turn into a private driveway just west of Fable Road SW, and the vehicles behind it were braking as well.
Burrows went off the right side of the roadway and struck the turning trailer, according to the patrol’s New Philadelphia post. He was not wearing a helmet and died at the scene.
The driver of the Ford, a 46-year-old Dellroy man, was cited for commercial driver’s license requirements. The patrol said the crash remains under investigation.
The deadly wreck is the second fatal motorcycle crash reported in the region this week, following the Oct. 8 death of an off-duty Ohio Highway Patrol trooper in a motorcycle-car collision in Richland County.
